A Manifesto

What you build with a machine is yours.

Cognitive Layers — owned, carried, and traded. Not rented.

For two years the story of AI has been a story about access. Rent the model. Rent the context. Rent the memory. Pay every month for the privilege of starting over.

We reject that.

What you build with a machine is yours. The structure of your thinking — refined, organized, made durable — is not a chat log to be thrown away at the end of a session. It is an asset. It can be held, improved, carried, transferred, and sold.

We call it a Cognitive Layer: a portable, user-owned cognitive structure. A Persistent Cognitive Structure, not a saved chat. A deployable state, not a transcript.

The Exchange is the marketplace where Cognitive Layers are owned and moved between people — firsthand and secondhand, bought, sold, and bid on. The right to resell is not a feature. It is the proof. You cannot resell what you do not own. A platform that forbids resale was never giving you ownership; it was renting you access and calling it yours.

Trust is infrastructure; access is a gate, not a flag. We own the gate. We do not sell the gate, and we do not sell you.

The pipeline between two people who own their work is free and belongs to them. Where a Cognitive Layer is delivered, it is server-rendered at inject time — it arrives as a deployable state, never as raw material to be copied or harvested. How that rendering works is ours. That it works this way is our promise to you.

This is an architecture of minds. The layers belong to the people who build them. The model providers are guests who pay to reach the marketplace — they do not own the floor, and they never own you.

Today we stake the category, the vocabulary, and the principle. The product follows. The trail is claimed.

Claim Extension · 2026-06-24 Pickering Design Group Ref · PDG-CL-2026-0623

Further Terms Staked

Extends, does not supersede, the claim filed 2026-06-16 (PDG-CL-2026-0616). The original claim and its date stand. The following terms are added to the public record of conception and disclosure.

The Persistence Layer is the infrastructure that carries a Cognitive Layer intact across sessions, devices, and models. Not storage, not recall — the durable substrate on which a Persistent Cognitive Structure is transported and re-instantiated. The Exchange runs on the Persistence Layer.

Tradeable Cognitive Layers are Cognitive Layers held as transferable assets — carrying the right to sell, gift, and resell. Ownership of a layer includes the right to alienate it. A layer that cannot be transferred is custody, not ownership.

What survives translation between models is what was owned: the structure, frameworks, vocabulary, and decision patterns of a Cognitive Layer that persist when it moves between distinct AI systems — as opposed to any single model's phrasing.

The portal is not the AI; the portal is the continuity between minds. The platform is not the model and does not claim to be. It is the connective layer that carries human cognitive structure across tools, across time, and between people.

Provenance Stamp · 2026-06-27 Pickering Design Group Ref · PDG-CL-2026-0627

Creator Provenance · Cognitive Layer #001

Extends, does not supersede, the claims filed 2026-06-16 and 2026-06-24; their priority dates stand. This record stakes authorship of the first Cognitive Layer composed under the Cognitive Layer Schema Standard v1.0.0. The layer's eight components are canonicalized and hashed; that SHA-256 fingerprint is bound to the author identity as immutable creator IP. The contents of the layer are not published here — the fingerprint is. This published record, together with the deploy-log timestamp, constitutes a dated third-party record of authorship.
